Waregem is the cradle of equestrian sports in Belgium. It not only features an equestrian sports centre, but also the famous Gaverbeek hippodrome. It covers a 17-hectare area and is at a stone's throw from the city centre. Trotting races are held here every weekend from the beginning of May until September.
The hippodrome is well-known in Belgium and abroad thanks to Waregem Koerse, an event which has been taking place since 1847. It attracts around 40,000 spectators every year.
